There are over 50 different projects involved in the Glendale Onboard Transportation Program. The majority consists of street and intersection improvements. The type of improvements described in the GO Program can be anything from new right turn lanes to raised medians at intersections. There are also improvements planned for safer and extended bike lanes, and more pedestrian friendly environments in the Arrowhead and downtown areas.
The City of Glendale has hired a consultant, URS Corporation, to develop preliminary engineering concepts for capital projects to be completed in the next five years. (See map below) In addition, recommendations will be |

provided in connection with the prioritization and scheduling of projects. The recommendations will be based on a series of factors including:
- Right-of-way constraints
- Potential utility conflicts
- Benefits to traffic flow
- Safety benefits
- Benefits to all modes of transportation (e.g. bus, car, bicycle and pedestrians)
- Coordination with other projects scheduled in the area
- Coordination with other
jurisdictions (e.g. ADOT,
City of Phoenix and Peoria)
- Public input

Improvements will include bus bays at major intersections, turn lanes, median islands, street widening, sidewalks, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, landscaping and other related improvements. In addition, long-range planning studies are underway for Northern Avenue to become a super street, connecting central Glendale to Loop 303. |
